Shelly’s career took off in 2012 with a groundbreaking translation project that earned her first professional translation a long-listing for the Man Asian Literary Prize. This milestone marked more than just professional recognition – it illuminated her calling. While translating stories from Chinese to English, Shelly quickly realized that capturing the heart of a narrative required more than linguistic skill. It demanded a deep understanding of cultural, historical, and social nuances that could transcend language barriers and create genuine connection.

Despite early accolades, Shelly faced her share of challenges. As a foreigner interpreting the stories of another culture, she often encountered skepticism from native scholars. Imposter syndrome crept in as she questioned her ability to authentically represent narratives that were not her own. But it was precisely this challenge that set Shelly apart. With humility and determination, she leaned into listening, learning, and immersing herself in the cultures she represented. By 2017, Shelly had expanded her focus. No longer content with simply producing high-quality translations, she launched her own venture, blending her expertise in storytelling and cultural intelligence to create something bigger. Her mission: to teach leaders, entrepreneurs, and creatives that impactful storytelling is about more than language.
